Danny Huang's Debut Harpsichord Recital!

  • Madison Avenue Christian Church 1530 Madison Avenue Covington, KY, 41011 United States (map)

Join Danny Huang in his professional debut recital as a harpsichordist! Danny will perform a poetic and dynamic selection of works by Louis Couperin, Ludovico Roncalli, J. S. Bach, William Byrd, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.

Headlining the recital are two works for harpsichord imagined through the sound worlds of guitar and lute: Danny’s transcription of Roncalli’s Passacaglia (from Capricci armonici), a cathartic set of variations for guitar that Ottorino Respighi orchestrated as the finale of his Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No. 3. This is followed by J. S. Bach’s Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro in E-Flat Major, a piece Bach likely composed for the Lautenwerk, or Lute-Harpsichord, an instrument that combined lute strings with harpsichord actions and keys.

Tickets are not required for this event, but donations are invited.

DANNY HUANG is a harpsichordist, pianist, and a Musicology PhD candidate at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). He studied harpsichord with Dr. Michael Unger at CCM as a part of his harpsichord cognate. In addition, Danny’s piano teachers include Dr. Del Parkinson, Peggy Purdy, Meishan Lin, and Le Binh-Anh Nguyen. He also studied violin with Prof. Craig Purdy and Alison Baldwin. Danny is currently writing his dissertation on cultivated virtuosity and community building in the piano masterclasses of Franz Liszt, Ferruccio Busoni, and their students from Germany in the 1850s to the United States in the 1950s.
