Towards the Piano Trio: Violin Sonatas of the 16-1700s

  • Indian Hill Church 6000 Drake Road Cincinnati, OH, 45243 United States (map)

7HB closes their fifth season, Chamber Reflections, with a program that is as engaging as it is illuminating: the evolution of chamber music featuring the violin from the 17th and 18th centuries. Beginning with the virtuosic early- to mid-Baroque violin sonatas of Castello and Biber, and later, a young J. S. Bach, audiences will hear how these earlier traditions gradually gave rise to a new chamber form still beloved today: the piano trio.

The concert culminates with a sparkling trio by Mozart, one of the earliest masterpieces of the genre, showing how the violin, keyboard, and cello evolved from continuo practice into a fully collaborative ensemble.

Program:

  • Castello – Sonata Prima in Stile Moderno

  • Biber – Sonata in A Major, C. 138

  • Bach – Sonata in E Minor, BWV 1023

  • (Intermission)

  • Mozart - Divertimento for 3 in B-flat, K.254

7HB Baroque principal violinist Lindsey Tootle brings her signature warmth and imagination to this lively season finale alongside cellist Dr. Joshua Bermudez and harpsichordist Maksym Mahlay. Join us as we journey alongside the violin from early Baroque experimentation to Classical elegance, and bring our fifth season to a thrilling close.

On site parking is free. The facility is handicap accessible.

Tickets are not required for this event. The concert is free, but donations of any amount are encouraged and gratefully accepted.
